Changing Your Mindset To Help You Decorate Your Home

You have a strong desire to decorate your home. I am sure you have even imagined the outcome and your family and friends’ reactions in your head a few times. How amazing your home will look after you finish decorating each room the way you have always dreamed of.

However, there is something that is stopping you from taking the steps to creating a beautiful home. What’s stopping you is you have a belief that you don’t have what it takes to decorate your home.

Let me share something with you about this, everyone feels this way in the beginning. I feel this way ALL the time.

I question if I am making the right choices and second guess every step along the way. But there is a way to overcome this thought…

Overcoming this belief all starts with a change in mindset. Instead of fearing decorating your home because you are worried you are going to make a mistake. Decide to have confidence that you have what it takes to decorate your home.

Changing Your Mindset

You are probably saying that’s a big change in mindset, . But please trust me that if you choose to have confidence that you can decorate, you will find decorating your home easier to do.

I recognize that this may be hard to do at first, but let me ask you these questions.

  • Is having a beautiful home worth changing your mindset?
  • Will decorating your home make you happier and more fulfilled?
  • Will your family and friends benefit from decorating your home?

If you said yes to any of those questions, then changing your mindset is worth it. Decorate in fear at first but just get started with something small that you have the confidence to do.

Maybe something small is To finally paint your living room. Taking small steps and having little wins at first will build on your level of confidence. Then, over time, you will have the mindset to take on bigger projects that you once didn’t have the confidence to do.

Perfection Reduced My Confidence

Let me tell you a quick story, when we first moved back into our house I was so excited to get started redecorating and finally make the “perfect” home. However, I lacked the confidence to get started. I found that despite my experience designing interiors for other people, I was constantly second guessing myself. My desired for “perfect” was reducing my confidence and creating fear.

I finally got over wanting to create the “perfect home” and instead I am working on creating an imperfect home.

Thanks to The Nesting Place

My change in mindset, which gave me the confidence to get started, was in large part because of reading Myquillyn Smith’s book The Nesting Place. Myquillyn helped me get over my desire for perfect and instead see the beauty and simplicity of creating an imperfect home. Reading her book restored my confidence that I needed to decorate my home.

If you think your house has to be perfect I highly recommend reading The Nesting Place to help you find peace in imperfection.

Your Talents Will Blossom

Here is a quote I found which I think applies to the myth that you don’t have what it takes to decorate.

Any human anywhere will blossom in a hundred unexpected talents and capacities simply by being given the opportunity to do so.

DORIS LESSING, attributed, Wisdom for the Soul

By choosing to have confidence in yourself instead of doubt, you are giving yourself the opportunity to discover and grow in your capabilities of decorating.

Everyone has the undiscovered ability to decorate…that’s you too. I am virtually pointing at you and telling you that you have what it takes to decorate your home.

Believe you can do it, take small steps, and most of all have confidence that you have what it takes. If you get stuck or make a mistake along the way it is not the end of the world. Dust yourself off and keep on going.

It is ALL Worth

Our homes are probably the most important place in our lives. So it is worth all the blood, sweat, tears and changing our mindset to have confidence to create a beautiful home. You can do this!

Start with small steps and belie you have what it takes…I believe in you.

Happy Decorating!
